This is much more than enjoying a round of golf in magnificent countryside, this is now a seriously good course, a formidable test in a breathtaking location. Set above the head of Bantry Bay, overlooking the bay with magnificent views of the Beara peninsular to the north and Sheep’s head peninsular to the south, the original 9 hole course set out by Eddied Hackett has been extended to the present 18 holes by Christy O’Connor Jr. making this one of the finest parkland style course in this part of Ireland. After a relatively easy start you are soon into some highly challenging golf with an ample supply of hazards including bunkers and six lakes to negotiate. Add to this the distraction of the magnificent views and some serious concentration will be needed to score well here.
