Founded in 1892 and located alongside the small resort town of Lahinch, The Old Course is often referred to as the St. Andrews of Ireland.

Conceived by military offices billeted in the area, the course was laid out by Old Tom Morris and subsequently altered by Scotsman Alistair Mackenzie, who also worked on Augusta, Cypress Point and Pebble Beach

Although the course sets out over flattish territory, within no time you are amongst the dunes and will soon realize why this is rated in the top ten courses in Ireland along with its South Western neighbors Tralee and Ballybunion. If you have the time play the Castle course, designed by John D Harris, it opened for play in 1963 and although less formidable than the old course it is still an interesting challenge.
