Sited in some of the finest country you can imagine, on the north east coast of the Ring of Kerry, Dooks was established in 1880 by officers of the Royal Horse Artillery, who were billeted at the nearby Glenbeih artillery range.

Although the original architect of this fine links course is not known, it was revamped by Eddie Hacket in 1973 and consideration is currently being given to upgrading again.

Set out on three sets of sand dunes reaching down to the bay, this is an excellent layout. Although less famous than some of its neighbours this course should none the less be played on any tour to this magnificent part of South West Ireland.

Peter Doberiner, the British writer described his round -“it was a dreamlike experience, playing over the rolling hills and guessing, often wrongly, which hollow would harbour a green”
