Beaulieu and the New Forest

Region: Dorset
Monuments: National Motor Museum - Palace House, Gardens and Abbey - Buckler's Hard Village and Maritime Museum

Set on the edge of the New Forest, the largest area of unenclosed land in the south of England, famous for its free wandering wild ponies, the village of Beaulieu is the home of Lord Montague, a car fanatic who has turned the ground of his estate into the National Motor Museum, a superb collection of motor vehicles old and new.

Besides the museum, Palace House, the familyís home is also open to the public.

Just south of the village is Bucklerís Hard, famous for it boatyards during the days fighting ships were built of wood. The Maritime Museum here is well worth a visit.
