Region: Wiltshire and Somerset
Monuments: Georgian homes, built in Cotswold stone - The Saxon church - 14th century Tithe Barn

A prosperous wool mill town in the 17th and 18th century, the town built on a steep embankment, houses a number of fine Georgian homes, built in Cotswold stone. There are some fascinating shops and restaurants in the town, and a Saxon church, built in 705, and a massive 14th century Tithe Barn to visit.

Look out for the small stone cell on the medieval stone bridge which crosses the river in the middle of town. Built as a chapel in the 13th century it was turned into a lock up for the local drunks!
