Region: Costa Brava
Monuments: The Gothic Quarter - Modernist architecture - the Museums

Although there are some 50 museums to visit in Barcelona, including one of the most popular, the Musee Picasso, the city itself is an open area museum with its great variety of architecture, monuments and sculptures.

The Gothic Quarter is considered the centre of the city, with its historical buildings and Bohemian atmosphere. Wander through the remains of the Jewish Quarter or the Roman walls, perfectly preserved amongst gothic buildings and on to La Rambla, a tree lined pedestrian Boulevard, the heart of the city, with its florist stands and entertainers.

Probably even more impressive than the Gothic Quarter are the modernist buildings designed by the likes of Antoni Gaudi, who’s Temple of the Sagrada Family design is still under construction some 80 years after his death.

Plenty to see, excellent shopping and a massive selection of places to eat the local cuisine make Barcelona a wonderful place to visit for a day, weekend or even longer.
