The Museum of Flight

Region: Muirfield

The Museum of Flight is an Aerospace Museum located on East Fortune Airfield and is now one of the National Museums of Scotland. This museum is situated on a historic site in aviation history; this was the take-off point, in 1919, for the R34 Airship which flew to the United States, becoming the first aircraft to fly east to west across the Atlantic. The Museum`s aircrat is housed in some of the original World War II hangers and buildings, it is the most complete airfield still existing.

The current centrepiece is the "Concorde Experience" with an opportunity to see the Concorde Airship "Alpha Alpha" that was donated by British Airways. Another one of the many pieces of aviation history at the museum is the de Havilland Comet which was the first commercial jet airliner to reach production. It first flew in 1949 and was considered a landmark British aeronautical design.
