The Glenkinchie Distillery

Region: Muirfield
Monuments:

Glenkinchie Distillery is the home of "The Edinburgh Malt", and is located in rolling farmland near the Village of Pentcaitland, East Lothian. Whisky production began here as a part-time operation on the Rate brothers farm. In 1825 the distillery was called the Milton Distillery and eventually the name was changed to Glenkinchie in 1837 after the de Quincey family who owned the land in the 14th century. Few parts of Scotland can boast of more history than this.

A visit will begin on the Old Malting Floors with an exhibition that houses a collection of old implements and tools used to produce whisky, then you will be taken on a guided tour of the modern day production area where you will learn how to make the water of life.

To finish your tour you are invited into the bar for a dram of Glenkinchie 12 year old single malt whisky which will satisfy any further thirst for knowledge.
