Peralada, a medieval noblemen`s town located in the in the province of Empordą, is constructed on the ruins of a sixth century fortified Iberian settlement. Among its most important historic monuments are the 14th century castle and its walls and the Romanic and Gothic convents.

The castle houses one of the best collections of Spanish glass and ceramics, medieval sculpture, paintings, coins, ironwork and a wine museum as well as an exceptional library with over 70,000 books, 200 incunabula and an archive of original documents since the 9th century. Next to it stands the 14th century church of Saint Martin and the Convent of Saint Carmen, architectural and historical gems of the town.

The Town Museum is located in the St Dominic Cloisters, this monument from the 13th century is the last remaining vestige of an Augustine convent founded in the second half of the 11th century.

A full day can be easily spent in this delightful town, which also boasts a casino in the castle, which also hosts the famous music festival each year during July and August. However some may prefer to split the day by taking in the Salavador Dali Museum in nearby Figueres.
