Bath

Region: Wiltshire and Somerset
Monuments: The Royal Crescent & The Circus - Bath Abbey - The Roman Baths Museum and Pump Room

Home to Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Gainsborough, the artist, the city of Bath, located in North East Somerset is famous for its hot springs and spa water, for its Roman history and its Georgian architecture.

The Romans created the first spa resort here; it became fashionable again as such in the 18th century when it was transformed into the beautiful Georgian city we see today. A walk along the palladium styled Royal Crescent and the nearby Circus, the work of architects John Woods, Elder and Younger is an essential part of a visit to Bath, as is a visit to the Roman Baths and the Abbey.

The city is a delightful place to shop, has a wide selection of excellent restaurants and is the home of the Theatre Royal, one of the oldest theatres in the country.
