Wimbourne and Kingston Lacey

Region: Dorset
Monuments: The Minster - Kingston Lacey House and grounds

The main feature of this delightful town is the Minster; although the current building dates back to 10th century a church has stood on the site since 705. The nearby Priest House, formerly the clergy’s accommodation is now a museum. Rooms are furnished from various periods.

Just outside town is Kingston Lacey, one of the most magnificent country estates managed by the National Trust. In 1981, it was handed over to the Trust by the Bankes family, who were major land owners in the area. It is particularly fascinating as essentially it is still in the same condition as when handed over to the Trust after the death of the last remaining member of the family, a bachelor. There are many personal items of the time as well as a magnificent collection of art including works by Velasquez, Titian and Rubens.
